Replying to myself here...

OK, turns out I needed to update my settings.pro to get rid of the 
dangling "-L" switch.  Now the flag I defined earlier has come back to 
bite me:

ld: Undefined symbols:
_mpeg2_idct_add_altivec
_mpeg2_idct_altivec_init
_mpeg2_idct_copy_altivec
_mpeg2_mc_altivec

Also, I had to manually add "-L/sw/lib/freetype2/lib" and "-L/sw/lib" to 
my settings.pro for it to find any of my Fink packages (like freetype 
and mp3lame).  Is there something else I should be doing instead?
