Hello,
I am a happy owner of a PVR-350, running Debian Testing/Unstable and
mythtv 0.14.
I used Matt Zimmerman's nice Debian packages for MythTV.
The port configuration comes directly from upstream: the backend tries
to bind to TCP port 6543.
Unfortunately, in legacy installations apcupsd also binds to this
port for its NIS (Network Information Server).
It was my case when I installed MythTV, and it is only when I clicked on
"watch TV" that I realized that my backend was not running (apcupsd had
started before the MythTV backend)
There is already a Debian bug opened and closed on this issue,
apcupsd NIS is now assigned port 3551
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=234253)
This bug report also says that "port 6543 is used by openmosix packages
for discovery daemon".
This port 6543 definitely seems to be busy. Changing this default for
the Mythtv backend might solve future port conflict issues?
