Ah... I see your point.  That might be the case if I had a 16:9 
DisplaySize aspect ratio set up in XF86Config rather than 4:3; I use the 
latter so that I don't have to keep selecting the correct aspect ratio 
every time I watch something (Myth seems to assume 4:3 for everything I 
record).

Okay, so scrub that patch.  Now, assume that I'm recording from a DVB-T 
source so it's 720x576; how do I tell MythTV that all my recordings are 
actually in a 16:9 anamorphic format?  And how can I keep that 
information when I transcode the DVB MPEG2 stream to MPEG4?

If it's not currently possible, I'll look into coding that instead.
