I disagree here - I record much more than I ever actually watch, so the 
asumption that "If I record something I will watch it (eventually)" is 
wrong.

For me, the semantics should be something like:
- - If I have watched a show and not deleted it then there is probably a 
reason (i.e. I want to rewatch it later).  There needs to be some way of 
clearing the watched flag incase it gets accidentally set, and the watched 
reacordings should be shown in a different colour on the recordings list 
so I can spot them easilly.
- - If a show is autoexpired when it hadn't been watched then I want the 
option of telling it that it's ok to rerecord the expired show later (but 
probably at a really low priority so it doesn't interfere with other, 
possibly more legitimate, recordings).

>From this thread, it's obvious that not everyone wants the same things to 
happen, so there probably need to be options to toggle the semantics (e.g. 
a tristate control that selects "Expire watched recordings: 
first/last/ignore" so the user can select which way it works (or infact if 
it bothers looking at the watched mark at all).
