I was thinking along those lines myself, but the "magic option" method is a
quick hack to allow it to be disabled in the meantime. I haven't really
gotten into the mythtv GUI, so I have no clue how to go about offering a
proper option for this (I'm assuming this should be done on either a per-card
or a per-input basis).
I'm really sort of confused by the large CPU load this is causing - the
difference is in the range of 1-3%CPU on my system. It may be that the code
is less optimal on other architectures, which is what I was hoping this
modification might correct, but it doesn't look like anybody has tried it
yet.
