ok, now that i have those fonts installed, the guide looks much cleaner. 
 i see that the whole size and everything has been locked in the ui.xml 
for that theme.  is that just because having the font sizes change too 
much would screw up the layout?

one other bug/problem though, when i changed the 'guide shading method' 
from 'colourized alpha' (i think was the default) to something else, i 
suddenly had a bunch of white screens.  the both guide screens have a 
white background, additionally, some of the setup screens also suddenly 
have a white background.  changing it back seemed to have no effect. 
 additionally, exiting (both front and back ends) had no effect.  i 
haven't tried to see where these settings might be to fix it, or try to 
track down the problem.
