For one certain software (not MythTV), there are

    * 30000 downloads
    * 100-200 subscribers on the users list
    * 5-10 of them posting and
    * 1 of them asking 30% of the questions (almost all of them dumb, of
      course)

The former 2 are hard stats, the latter 2 are subjective. (Make your own 
conclusions about user types based on that data.)

I guess you can't even get download numbers for MythTV, because there 
are Redhat, Debian etc. packages on other sites.
