hmm, if it's that simple (that looks like crap on my system because some
of my channel names are rather long - 8+ characters), I can implement it
as an option.  ok, that was easy enough (prefer_channum=false in
conf.php).  I still don't think it looks particularly good, but if it
gives you the info you need, then it's all good...

there's a configuration option for this for the frontend?   Anyway,
eventually, there will be a "my prefs" section in mythweb that will give
you control over all that kind of stuff.  For the moment, it's
hard-coded into conf.php
