The docs tell you right at the top that they're for 0.7. There's a
small section that details mythtv-0.8, but since CVS moves so quickly
I don't plan on doing another major doc update until it slows down a
little and MythTV is closer to release. No, I have no idea when that
will be.
If you want to run CVS, I suggest reading through the archives.

I doubt that it's locking up. XMLTV is probably running in the
background, getting your provider information and channel sources.
If you're on a fairly fast connection, and it _really, really_ seems
to be taking a long time, then ALT-TAB (or whatever) and see if XMLTV
is waiting for interactive input from you for some reason.
