Look, if you're concerned about the user friendlyness, then the number
crap should go away, and the user should have 4-5 options:

0 Best quality, slowest performance
2 High quality, slow performance
5 Good quality, good performance
7 Low quality, better performance
9 Worst quality, best performance

With perhaps better strings than i have here, but you get the picture -
the user can see they are making a quality/performance tradeoff.

You have a slider and a text control, so the user can fiddle with it and
see the results. I doubt anyone is so fanatical that they only encode with
quality 3, and can't handle using quality 2 or 4.

Otherwise, all UI arguments should be dropped and it should be left alone.
Spending time taking things from a broken state to another broken state is
a waste of time.

My $.02
