Thanks, that took care of the auto login question. I was trying
something similar: su - mythtv -c /usr/X11R6/bin/startx
It did not work, complained about not finding xauth and xinit programs.
I knew it was a path problem and started editing start x to use full
paths. I was getting close until I read your solution. --login made
all the difference.
