A slave backend needs to be online not only during the recording but
also during playback.

This is the case because the recording is associated with the backend
which recorded it, meaning that the (slave in this case) backend needs
storage, whether local or otherwise. This is in fact another
disadvantage of the slave backend approach: the need for dedicated storage.
