Well, I got everything to work. It was something I was doing wrong. 
There's a line on the wiki that says to set the Station parameter equal 
to the CallSign and I was not doing that correctly. I either read it 
wrong or read somewhere else that it needed to be the chanId. Once I set 
that correctly, the override took effect correctly and the recording was 
extended.
