Yes it is Ubuntu, the console message was "kernel panic-not syncing: fatal
exception in interupt
kernel offset 0xe2000 from oxffffffff81000000 relocation range:
0xffffffff80000000 - 0xffffffffbfffffff
---[end kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interupt"

anything I can find with google talks about a different case senario, mine
is a functional system on both an Elite mobo and a Asus mobo, that refuses
to shut down fully on a Gigabyte mobo.
