Did you already look at your mythfrontend log files, as I suggested?  
It's much easier than digging into other things and may well tell you 
what the problem is (especially if you see the lines I mentioned). Or, 
better yet, post a copy of the mythfrontend logs from startup through to 
going into the Watch Recordings screen, and let someone take a 
look--then we can do more than just make guesses.

Without looking at the log files, you're just randomly doing stuff in 
the hope that you might accidentally fix some problem whose cause you 
don't know.
