Agreed, shotgun repair tactics may work, but don't teach anything.
Previously I had narrowed it down to the mobo, that's why I borrowed the
wife's (while awaiting delivery) there was an initial persistence of the
symptom, but going through the "advanced options" at boot got it working,
"cleared the memory of the problem on the other board, I thought" Because
it failed the first wake-up, I've been leaving it on 24/7 and it was fine
for a week, and then coffee and crossword was accompanied by the "pops"  of
my storage2 drive. Step one, replace sata cable, kept popping, step two run
optimize_mythdb.pl, popping stopped for 60 hours now, and counting. I
confirm this by opening "disks" if storage2 has dropped out it appears
beneath the rom drive. Pleasingly scratching my head at this point.
And totally appreciative of this list to vent and organise my thoughts on.
MYTHTV ROCKS!
