3) A while ago, I configured Sendmail to forward the various status updates
that come up from time to time as well as the daily logwatch script. It
was pretty much overkill and I had a hell of a time getting things working
right.

It worked for about 5 years until this update. There was an issue with
TLS. It looks like my old configuration wasn't ready for TLS 1.3.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GnuTLS-TLS1.3

I took a look at the configuration files and felt my usual wave of nausea
when dealing with Sendmail. I finally just switched to Postfix, which is
actually actively updated and is much more readable. I haven't fully
tweaked it yet but the mail is going out. I'm only sending from this host
and not listening.

Again, this is probably overkill but I want to make sure that drops in my
internet connection don't result in undelivered mail. I had msmtp running
and it seemed like it wasn't 100% reliable. This way ensures that I get
all of root's mail when I'm on vacation, for example. I like to see those
daily logwatch mails, too, just to know that my machine is still going.
And then sometimes the mail from smartctl. Always a pleasure. Especially
when away from home. :(

I'm sure I could have eventually gotten Sendmail working but I think it was
time to kick that to the curb.

This involved running 'update-alternatives --config mta' and selecting
postfix (after installing it). The configuration is much easier to deal
with. I followed a guide and only had to change a few settings. Try doing
that with Sendmail.

So if you have Sendmail configured, you might want to look at the TLS
settings. Or maybe not, YMMV.
