Somebody else came across a similar issue on an older kernel
(http://linux-media.vger.kernel.narkive.com/GcQxxhbW/hd-pvr-fails-consistently-on-linux-works-on-windows).
Until now I was using Gentoo with my own custom config. I booted into
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and i was able to record using 'cat' for an hour. I
copied 4.4-21 kernel config from another gentoo system and now the PVR
seem to be stable. Guess, something in the kernel config was breaking
HDPVR. Also, I changed the audio to RCA Back instead of SPDIF.

Going to test this for a few more days.
