So my question is: Can 2 mythtv backends be setup to the same HDHR
Connect if they don't record or watch livetv at the same time.

Can't see why not. You could make sure that the 0.28 host's schedule
order (in Input connections) selected the PCIe card 1st and then
change the schedule order for the 2nd HDHR to 0, so that it would
never be used. Then on the 29 host, only configure the 2nd half of
the HDHR.

From memory there's a setting that determines whether MythTV has access to the card on-demand or all the time. I guess you'd want to set this to on-demand otherwise one of the backends will have nabbed the HDHR for itself. I'm afraid I can't remember where that setting is or what it's called but someone else here may know what I'm referring to and chime in.

I could not find a setting for on-demand. I can set the priority of the card to 0 instead of 1 and it will not be selected by the scheduler. I think that as long as I shutdown the test system before recording at night, it will not cause any issues. It didn’t yesterday is a small test run.
