[mythtv-users] mythtv-light for raspbian stretch for 29 startup error

I'm playing around with using a Raspberry Pi as a frontend.  so far I've
followed the instructions here:

when I try to run the frontend I get the following error:

mythfrontend: error while loading shared libraries: g: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

What is this mysterious shared library called g?  was there a build error
in the current package or something?  Do I need to install 'g' from
somewhere?
