[mythtv-users] Hauppauge HD-PVR2 / Colossus2 support

Follow-up here. I've been using my HDPVR-2 for months. I've noticed a few
things and wonder if these are issues encountered by others: My setup is
below (*)

   1. Has anyone gotten S/PDIF (optical)* with surround sound to work? The
closest I've gotten is S/PDIF (optical)* with AAC encoded stereo output.
I've recently had an HDPVR 1212 finally die (after many power supply
replacements), so I'm in the market for either a used 1212 or perhaps a
Colossus 2 if Optical Surround -> 5.1 AC3 is doable with either the HDPVR-2
or the Colossus 2 (PCIe) instead. I'd like to hear if others got this
working. The backend in question typically is for recording movies from an
STB (HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc.) which benefit from capturing the surround
audio.I tried poking with the John's & Hauppauge's sources myself to
override some the CS8416 parameters, but still only got a silent audio
track trying to enable AC3 via SPDIF (Optical)*.
   2. I see an IR port on both my HD-PVR2 (and online specs of the Colossus
2). Although I'm doubtful - any way to use that for blasting/transmitting?
I have the transmitter from my dead 1212 plugged into my HDPVR-2, but using
the HDPVR2 doesn't trip any automatic module loading like the 1212's do
   with lirc_zilog.

* -I say optical since it appears the CS8416 as used in the HD-PVR2 routes
HDMI AC3 audio over the same path internally to get it in the output file.
