Thanks Karl

You're right about the video memory, 512Mb works and further testing has 
shown the sweet spot is around 256Mb (perhaps one step more) for 1080p 
bluray rips.


Are you talking about VDPAU support for Intel within mythtv only?

Although I've only tested it quickly, VDPAU appears to works fine in 
Kodi for me (it might be falling back to software though!).

I just realised that I cut a section of my original post where I 
mentioned that I have these packages installed: 
libva-vdpau-driver-0.7.4-14, libvdpau-va-gl-0.4.2-2 & libvdpau-1.11-3

I thought that subset of VDPAU was supported for VAAPI hardware by the 
libva-vdpau driver? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Acceleration_API)

Are you able to clarify please?
I probably misunderstood something.
