Hmmm, that is unusual to not have more entries when it fails.  Is
there anything in the backend log when the tuner fails to record?  You
did try to record something (well, the frontend will not let you, but
you could run the cat command again) to make it error if it is being
finicky.  I know when the power supplies fail, there are no errors
until you try to make it do some work usually.
