[mythtv-users] Alternative to HDPVR

Hi everyone,
I have been using an HDPVR with MythTV for several years with no problems.
I recently upgraded my backend hardware to a NUC with MythTV 29 and despite
trying two HDPVR's with multiple power supplies nothing I've done has made
it reliably record from the HDPVR. The ancient HDHomerun works flawlessly
so the backend is fine, it's simply the HDPVR is not reliable anymore.
I've seen others on the list complain that it's not reliable on USB3, which
is most likely the problem I'm experiencing. So I'm wondering if there is
a better alternative.
I'm considering buying one of the HDMI capture boxes on ebay or Amazon to
capture from cable STB's into MythTV. Anyone have any experience they can
share on how well they work? Any problems with them? Are you using an
external channel change script and an IR blaster? Are there any specs or
capabilities that I should look for? I know they only capture in stereo,
but since that's all I get with the HDPVR I'm OK with that.
Thanks to anyone who replies.
Scot
