[mythtv-users] consolidating my streaming and Mythtv

My backend is a Core i7-2600K 3.4Ghz with 16GB DRAM. Most of my frontends are Core i3 3rd gen NUCs. I used to switch between HDMI inputs from DirecTV DVR and mythtv frontend using my A/V receivers.

All of my recordings on Mythtv are OTA programs in HD. I didn’t record the local networks programs on the DirecTV DVR because bad weather screws with Sat TV. Now that I’ve cut the cord, I still have all my OTA recordings on Mythtv for Network programs like CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox. But I have to use FireTV or Roku for what would be called Cable channels like TNT, FX, and TBS.

I would love to have a way to play my recorded OTA programs that are on Mythtv on my Roku or FireTV. Over the years I’ve heard discussions about Roku and FireTV not being able to play the MPEG 2 recordings from Mythtv.

So what do I need to do to make my Roku and FireTV play my recordings. Are there app to play the recordings if I convert them to H.264? I don’t want to brick the FireTV stick or the Roku Ultra or do anything illegal, but integrating streams and Mythtv would be great.
