First off, you are correct in that you can't mix major versions of
MythTV between the frontend and the backend.

I'm on slackware64-current and still running 0.27.x  0.28 requires QT5
which means you will have to add it in order to compile.

One easy way to get QT5 is to run with AlienBob's ktown packages,
which I run, but I haven't bothered to upgrade to 0.28 yet.
