Short story: if I reboot my MBE/FE combo system the HD-PVR and I start
recording, the recording will last for about 30 to 45 seconds and fail.

I do *not* use the IR receiver on the HD-PVR.
However, if I follow this sequence:
* Power off the HD-PVR (and leave it off)
* Reboot the MBE/FE
* Wait for the frontend to appear
* Power on the HD-PVR
* Restart the backend
I could not find a way to disable the IR receiver on the HD-PVR.
Last month I purchased a new power supply directly from Hauppauge. I
also purchased a "spare" HD-PVR from eBay and it exhibits the same behavior.
Linux kernel 4.4.13
