A couple of reasons I gave up on Kodi:

1. Kodi does not do forward and back skip properly - with mythtv
recordings the audio gets out of sync (on raspberry pi).

2. I tried but could not get Kodi to run on amd64, it always seg faulted
before even displaying the screen.
