Then Glen's fix may not help you. Chances are the problem you're seeing 
is due to a bug in xfce4-settings:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105
Although the bug shows up filed against a particular nvidia driver, if 
you read the various posts, you'll see it affects other GPUs, like Intel 
and ATI, and that the culprit is actually a bug in xfce4-settings that 
first showed up on 14.04 and is still there in 16.04

There are a number of work arounds and patches offered. I chose to go 
with the work around of disabling xfsettingsd on my mythbuntu 14.04 
system with an Intel i3-3220 with built in HD Graphics 2500, as 
described in this post:
