Does anyone have any experience with Octo satellite tuners?

like this: Max S8
http://www.dvbshop.net/Digital-Devices-Max-S8-TV-Card-PCIe-Quad-Octo-DVB-S2-Full-Profile_1

or this: TBS6909 DVB-S2 8 Tuner PCIe Card
http://www.tbsdtv.com/products/tbs6909-dvb-s2-8-tuner-pcie-card.html

I believe they are both a 4 input multiswitch with 8 tuners attached such that any tuner can select any polarisation or band. I understand they can be switched into various other modes like paired tuners or SCR mode, not sure if that applies to both models.

They both appear to have Linux drivers of some sort but of course the devil is in the details with this sort of thing… TBS always had a reputation for releasing binary blobs or custome media trees that broke all other open source drivers but that may not be the case any more…? Maybe.

Expensive but cheaper than re-wiring my communal system to get more satellite feeds or a server full of tuners and a multiswitch. I have 4 feeds already and they could be patched to Quattro rather than Quad if required. I like the idea of not running out of tuners any more rather than just bodging on one or two more tuners. :-)

Any thoughts or experience?

Andre
