Fortunately we have multiple ways (packages, tarballs, images) to
install unofficial MythTV builds for the Raspberry Pi. See:

The challenge is that all of these builds require customization for
specific location and hardware.

For example, some countries use 50 Hz power and others use 60 Hz power.
This has implications for TV show transmission/format and means that the
correct video mode needs to be configured on RPi2 to be compatible.
Further different televisions support different resolution modes, so
what works for one might not work for another.

I think the majority of people are able to take one of these builds and
configure it to work well on their RPi.

However, due to unique hardware or other circumstances a select few have
been unable to reach a satisfactory solution.  This results in trying
various combinations, such as the above listed incompatible mix of
Raspbian binaries with an Ubuntu Wily installation.

I think if one follows the specific instructions for a chosen build,
then many of these issues can be avoided.
