I just ran across this: https://blog.benjojo.co.uk/post/cheap-hdmi-capture-for-linux in which the author writes about reverse-engineering an HDMI-over-IP extender device in order to capture the output. Looks like it might make a good tuner if combined with a set top box and an IR blaster. -dsr-
