Got it working!
I read more from the threads you suggested and eventually realized that
using files from the 12.04 version was a bad idea. I think
/etc/lirc/hardware.conf was the culprit. After restoring the original
files, the remotes started working correctly.
Then I had a problem with the HD-PVR. All the setups and scripts were
good (except in the Mythbuntu control panel; it blanks out the blaster
selection and throws and error...but the configs were correct) so I
tried un-commenting "DISABLE_KERNEL_SUPPORT="false" " in hardware.conf.
That made the HD-PVR work, but the remote went crazy (most keys had
double hits), so I commented out that line again. After re-boot, both
remote and HD-PVR worked correctly. Not sure why, but I'll take the
win. Thanks for the suggestion.
PS - The remote works better than it ever has. The keyboard system
seems to be a big improvement.
