[mythtv-users] Playing nice with plex/what to transcode to?

I have mythtv with the HDhomerun ATSC tuners. the default save file is
*.ts. Unfortunately, plex doesn't recognize them as valid, so I plan to
transcode the files to something else.  I am wondering what other people
normally transcode to?  I have been living with mpeg2 for so long, I am bit
worried about switching to anything else.  My use case is primarily viewing
using mythfrontend, but when plex is setup, I will most likely use plex on
most devices (appletv, amazon fire stick, chromecast, iPad, Android).
What's other people's experience with transcoding? why do you choose one
format over another? What should I be thinking about? Thanks.
