I was also experiencing out of sync audio.

Not likely (as you will see below)...

Mine is Nvidia using VDPAU.  So completely different hardware and
drivers but similar symptoms.

I honestly suspect some bug has crept into the player or I/O pipeline
since 0.27.  I have been meaning to go bug report it but I'm skeptical
that anything will come of it.  When I do eventually get to reporting
it, I sincerely hope I am wrong about that.

I have one.  One that has made this a complete non-issue for me, hence
my dragging my feet on bug reporting...

That's similar to my idea.  My idea is to start using Kodi.  That's
what I have done.  It has had not a single problem with any of the
content that the MythTV frontend has been choking over.  Not a single
one.  Kodi (and mplayer) have both proven that the O/S, drivers, I/O
pipeline, BE, etc. are all fine.  They both play everything from my
MythBE with not a single problem.  It's just the MythFE that is having
a problem.  Sherlock Holmes would deduce from that body of evidence
that the MythFE is the culprit.

Cheers,
b.
