In case anyone is still following this thread, I updated my HD-PVR 
firmware about 30 days ago and it's been the best 30 days I've had since 
I've owned the device. I was accustomed to cycling power on the unit 
several times a week and I have *not* done this since I've updated the 
firmware.

If anyone is considering an firmware upgrade, I would recommend it 
(assuming your power supply is working well, etc).
