[mythtv-users] MCE error on new computer

I'm having problems getting my mce (via USB) remote to work.  I get 
these error messages in syslog:

Oct 18 17:19:56 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: uirt2_raw: did not receive results
Oct 18 17:19:56 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: uirt2_raw: No UIRT2 device found 
at /dev/ttyS0

Oct 18 17:20:25 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: Failed to initialize hardware
Oct 18 17:20:25 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: select() failed
Oct 18 17:20:25 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: Bad file descriptor
Oct 18 17:20:25 andy lircd-0.9.0[1177]: removed client

The hardware (IR receiver/blaster and Hauppage HD-PVR) all work on 
another computer; I move the wire from the working machine over to this 
new one and see the errors.

Does that mean the new computers USB hardware is failing?  I tried a 
thumb drive on a couple of its usb sockets, no problem there.  Any 
suggestions on what to look for?
