Sometimes? Is vlc still in control? Does vlc play with menus, or
single tracks? Are the dvds commercial recordings?

My first guess would be that Myth is using the wrong device, but the
'sometimes' suggests not. I have /dev/sr0 specified; it plays ok but
won't eject, Media Monitor saying 'No devices to eject.' The
push-button usually works. I normally use a stand-alone deck, mainly as
an attempt to reduce Myth system load at peak recording/viewing time.

Here's my frontend log on first selecting a MythArchive dvd-with-mp2 and
entering the menu display. I've never really examined it but comparison
might give some hints. v0.28-pre-2683-g7f68683
