Sounds like exactly what mythlink.pl was designed to do--create a 
symlink-based view of the in-MythTV recordings that's usable by a 
program other than MythTV as if it were looking at human-readable (or, 
possibly, computer-parseable) file names.

Just leave the file names as they are in MythTV and create a separate 
directory under which you create a mythlink.pl view of the recordings.  
That separate directory should be under your non-MythTV application's 
"videos" directory (or whatever they call it) and you should not tell 
the other application about the MythTV recordings directory.
