Unfortunately, adding 'playback' debugging didn't offer a lot more
information.. There aren't a whole log of log events generated. The
one type of log which is repeated quite a lot is:

2015-10-07 23:29:55.016387 I AFD: EIA-708 caption service #5 is in the
Undetermined language.
2015-10-07 23:29:55.016416 I AFD: EIA-708 caption service #6 is in the
Undetermined language.
2015-10-07 23:29:55.016449 I AFD: EIA-608 caption service #1 is in the
Undetermined language.
2015-10-07 23:29:55.082768 I AFD: EIA-708 caption service #1 is in the
Undetermined language.
2015-10-07 23:29:55.082808 I AFD: EIA-708 caption service #2 is in the
Undetermined language.

Searches didn't turn up much about that log.. I'm not sure if it's
unimportant, a symptom of another issue, or part of the cause..

I've tried all the various audio settings and options. But, nothing seems
to help.
