Back up the db, pull out the old OS disk. Then install 14.04 to a small
SSD (eg 128GB), temp mount the data partitions from the old disk
and copy the data over, taking care to use the same paths as before.
The installer will walk you through the whole thing.
Ideally, you would take the opportunity to shuffle the data to separate
disk(s) from the OS, so the next upgrade will be easier. That will
require a bit of command-line work after the basic install is done.
Finally, restore the database (this is well documented in the wiki).
This way you can always go back to the old state of the system with
no loss of data (at least until you start recording again) - just put
the old disk back.
