[mythtv-users] OT: xmltv season / episode numbering standard

Is there anyone on this list that can offer advice on xmltv season and
episode numbering and standards?

The Shepherd grabber (in Australia) appears to use the xmltv_ns standard
(http://xml.coverpages.org/XMLTV-DTD-20021210.html ). In particular season
and episode numbering is indexed from zero (Season 3 Episode 7 is
represented as  "<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">2 . 6 . </episode-num>"). So
how are Season 0 episodes (which are specials on The TVDB) handled (my
conclusion at this time is that they are not, at least not with the xmltv_ns
standard)?

Context: I am looking to bash together a script to improve the xml data with
information from The TVDB before mythfilldatabase pulls it into MythTV.

Does mythfilldatabase support different xmltv season/episode numbering
standards (if alternatives exist)?
