Should I mention that proper FHS usage says
that /mnt/ is not the directory you should be
looking for?  /srv/mythtv/ is likely the more correct
base directory(*) and where many experienced
admins would look for locally maintained data.
Not using the mount point itself for storage is
good practice for many apps, MythTV included,
due to the reasons cited.

Yes, I understand FHS is just another standard
that one is free to ignore.  But as /mnt/ is so
ingrained into some admins fingers (and so
many "helpful" posts on various wikis and forums
that some just use without fully internalizing)
for a really temporary mount, some confusion
can occur when using /mnt/ for long term (mythtv)
storage.

(*)  there is an argument for /var/opt/mythtv/
     if you install mythtv in /opt/, and /var/lib/mythtv/
     if you install mythtv in /usr/local/
