I too have been suffering from USB messiness so I too am interested.
Since you *have* 2 dongles (1 for the RaPI) why would this not work:
2 Dongles on backend
1st (best) dongle does NOT do EPG scan
2nd I guess hardly ever used (I manage from month-to-month with 2 tuners + 2 virtual tuners, I accept YMMV) does do EPG scan so the recording dongles never EPG, and the EPG channels don’t record.
