What about getting a APC Back-UPS that has the Master/Slave setup. Such as the APC ES 750VA. When it detects power usage on the plug going to the computer (plugged into the Master port), you can have 2 devices (plugged in to slave ports) receive power.

Not necessarily a cheep solution at $100. Bu t is giving you functionality and pieces of mind with regards to protection.

Subject: [mythtv-users] Desk Top Power

Has anyone had success powering Ethernet switches, HDHR's, or Set Top Boxes from the power supply of a PC?
I can see 5 or 12 VDC among the red black and yellow wires, I know it would be polarity critical, and I really only need the gadgets when the PC is on, or turns itself on.

Any ideas pro or con?
