Will try that next.
To everyone suggesting it could be the channel changing/sleep time: that's
a great suggestion and I've run into that problem previously, but I've
ruled it out this time by always staying on the same default channel, and I
verified that when you change the channel to the same channel, it doesn't
disrupt the video at all.
Here's my mythbackend -v output showing the frontend launching, the
frontend asking to record a channel, and the failure (I removed the
timestamps for readability):
