[mythtv-users] PCTV 292e not being detected by mythtv-setup

it's been hours since the last reboot. aside from the dmesg snippet of my previous response, there is nothing else around the terms si2168, em28xx, 292e, 500mA, frontend, or firmware.
manually modprobing doesnt appear to do much; i tried that earlier today and even after a few minutes, nothing obvious was happening.
immediately after modprobe, i get the following in dmesg:
[ 9585.294301] usbcore: registered new interface driver em28xx
[ 9585.294303] em28xx driver loaded

modprobing before usb insertion also doesnt appear to have any difference on the outcome; hardware gets detected, but doesnt seem to be configured for use.
