Larry,

I've been having a different problem with the Liva (you may know me
from such popular threads as "Can't get lirc or irw to work, but mode2
works"), but in the course of trying to fix it, I upgraded my kernel
to 4.0 (running Ubuntu 15.04). And new video seems to come back when:

- Liva goes to sleep and turns back on
- tv is turned off/on when connected directly to Liva
- receiver is turned off/on when tv is connected to Liva through receiver

I did not modify any boot parameters or make any changes to the stock
ubuntu install. YMMV, but you might want to give this a try.
