I downloaded the amd64 ISO from
https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ and wrote it to a flash
drive using the instructions here:
https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch04s03.html.en

I THINK that you could use the current stable release net install iso since
it was released in June, it should support uefi boot.  That image is
available from: https://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/

Basically, just download the amd64 image, plug in a usb thumb drive, and
assuming it shows up as /dev/sdx, do a:

cp debian-8.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso /dev/sdx
sync

and you now have your install drive.  I remember using dd in the past to
make bootable thumb drives, but it looks like they've got it down to a
simple process now.
