I get round that problem by selecting "Find and record one of these". That 
allows for rescheduling by the networks and/or movements between channels - 
which happens a lot around here at Wimbledon time...

..it does require an eyeball or two to make sure you have the episode you wanted 
but that's better than missing it completely.
